HTC started off as a company with a pretty small budget, but as the years went on, their revenue grew tremendously. In 2011, HTC became the largest smartphone vendor in Taiwan with a profit of $293 million. This was later surpassed by Samsung in 2013 when they sold $2.8 billion worth of smartphones to customers worldwide.

The History of HTC is filled with various adjustments in the marketplace and market fluctuations. The CEO recently announced they were going to be cutting their jobs in half from 4500 employees to 1900 employees worldwide because of reduced operating costs and future investment opportunities that require sacrifices now for plenty later.

In 2012, HTC sold about 36 million smartphones which put them at No. 4 in global smartphone shipments. They held this spot until 2013 when they were knocked to the 5th position by Motorola Mobility taking over that top spot. This is when the company began to fall into a decline and was forced to cut down its workforce.

HTC announced they would be cutting their workforce by 1/3 in order to save money and redirect resources towards their virtual reality efforts. HTC has developed a phone that has all their extra features built in like an ultra-high-definition screen, better camera, and the ability to sync up with a computer without having USB cords attached for data synchronization. HTC first introduced their version of the new virtual reality headset called the HTC Vive for $799.99, but later dropped the price down to $599.99. This was a big gamble for them because it was said that this new virtual reality headset would cost about $200 to produce. They also began partnering with Google to help them produce their own virtual-reality operating system and VR software called "Daydream".

HTC's latest phone is named One X9 which has been priced at $315 with a 16GB ROM and 3GB RAM and is available in China. The One X9 is their first phone with a dual camera system and can capture photos in 35mm equivalent while recording 1080p video at 30fps. The phone also includes a 3400mAh battery that comes standard with the phone.

In 2016, HTC had a major decrease in revenue as they were able to sell 5 million smartphones, but this was still way down from the 2014 total of over 18 million smartphones sold by the company around the world.
